New 6 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor from Truesense Imaging Targets High Performance Imaging Applications

ROCHESTER, N.Y., November 19, 2013 – Truesense Imaging is expanding its portfolio of high performance image sensors with a new 6 megapixel CMOS image sensor targeted to applied imaging markets such as machine vision, intelligent transportation systems, and surveillance. Combining high resolution and high frame rate, the 6 megapixel KAC-06040 Image Sensor provides key features required by a growing number of current and emerging imaging applications.

“The KAC-06040 is the latest example of our strategy to provide the most advanced image sensor products for high performance applications,” said Chris McNiffe, CEO of Truesense Imaging. “This new 6 megapixel device, along with our 12 megapixel KAC-12040 Image Sensor, complements our extensive CCD portfolio by providing the flexibility and functionality uniquely available from CMOS technology. With these products, customers can continue to trust Truesense Imaging to provide the very best image sensor products regardless of the underlying technology.”

The KAC-06040 Image Sensor is a 6 megapixel (2832 x 2128) 1 inch optical format device that provides 10-bit full resolution output at up to 160 fps. It joins the 12 megapixel KAC-12040 Image Sensor as the latest member of the TRUESENSE 4.7 micron CMOS Image Sensor Family, a platform that provides both global and rolling shutter for versatile image capture, very high frame rate, and excellent near-IR sensitivity – features required by a growing set of applied imaging applications such as machine vision, intelligent transportation systems, and surveillance. The platform also includes a flexible read-out architecture that supports programmable, multiple regions of interest, enabling full speed, interspersed video streams for simultaneous monitoring of both full field of view and multiple localized zones. Both devices share a common pin-out, allowing a single camera design to support both image sensors for a variety of applications.

The KAC-06040 Image Sensor is available in monochrome and Bayer color configurations, and is sampling today with production planned for Q1, 2014. The KAC-12040 Image Sensor, which is shipping today, is available in monochrome and Bayer color configurations. Evaluation systems are available for both devices, allowing performance of either sensor to be quickly and easily examined in detail without the need to develop a full camera design.
