photokina is searching for the best CGI designers and aspiring young talents of 2014
photokina 2014 – 16 to 21 September 2014
For the second time after 2012, the photokina is searching for the most creative photo artists armed with a mouse and graphics tablet. We are talking about the “Best of CGI Award 2014″. The competition addresses creative designers and aspiring young talents, who can submit their best CGI renderings. Agencies, photographers, designers and studios from all over the globe, who occupy themselves with the theme CGI, are called upon to participate in the category “Professional”. Design students and aspiring young designers, who completed their studies no longer than two years ago, can apply for the category Young Talent. In the 'Best of CGI Award Gallery' the renderings nominated by the expert jury will be exhibited during the photokina 2014, where the ultimate winners of the competition will also be announced. The 'Best of CGI Award 2014' is being supported and accompanied by the media partner, Lürzer Archive. The entry deadline is 01.08.2014.
The theme of the CGI renderings submitted for the nomination process is open. The submitted work should not be older than two years, which means it has to have been produced after 30.09.2012. Each participant (in the case of joint applications, each group) is only allowed to submit one CGI rendering per category. The entry deadline is 23:59 p.m. on 01.08.2014. Interested parties can apply for participation using the online form at www.photokina.de/cgi-award. A preselection will be made from the submitted applications. Then, in a second step, the respective winner of both categories will be chosen from the preselected entries. The jury's decision is final.
Computer generated imaging – CGI for short – is a new trend in the photography sector. This virtual visualization technique is an innovative form of imaging and opens up undreamt-of visualization opportunities to the users. The special exhibition photokina cgi is being staged for the fourth time this year and in addition to the manifold presentations of the exhibitors, it also offers a comprehensive lecture programme. Once again in 2014, the team of the Faculty Design of the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule will be responsible for the exhibition zone under the direction of Prof. H.-M. Jostmeier and they will support interested visitors with their expert know-how.

The success story of Cologne trade fairs began in 1924 with the opening of the first event on the exhibition grounds in Cologne-Deutz. During the “economic miracle” of the post-World War II era, the “Rheinische Messe” became a global trading center. Today Koelnmesse has the world's fifth-largest exhibition complex and organizes approximately 75 trade fairs in Cologne and all over the world. During its anniversary year of 2014, Koelnmesse is bringing its history to the public’s attention through numerous activities, publications, and exhibitions.
